Finally had a chance to catch a Boise Hawks game, just in time for their last home stand. I’ve had a fondness for minor league baseball for years, from Texas League wood bat ball to Thirsty Thursdays with the Peoria Chiefs. I’ll hope that the Hawks get the new stadium they clearly need and that the Cubs are demanding, but even if they don’t, I’ll be back. Especially on dollar dog night.
I dig the local/regional goodies around town, from the beer to the bread to the dessert delicacies.
Boise has some great bathrooms, from the gnome turntable at the Modern Hotel to the chalkboard at Bar Gernika.
Definitely don’t mind having this place as my daily mid-morning coffee destination.
Been a bit since one of us updated. Elena is back in the south for the fall and I’m spending my time getting acclimated and seeing what is to be seen. I’ve already found some favorite spots, like Red Feather and the Modern Hotel, and have got an early start on my Boise cultural bucket list by hitting the Tour de Fat pre-party and floating the Boise River. So many great things to do.
Step 1 in installing our western aesthetic. What else but a jackalope purchased for me by Elena (after a not insignificant amount of begging) at Wall Drug, in the heart of South Dakota jackalope country.
My reward for sweating out an hour or two at today’s food truck rally. Don’t get me wrong - both the IPA from Payette and the BBQ from St Lawrence Gridiron were delightful and praiseworthy. This glass bottle of liquid deliciousness, though, was what really hit the spot.
Loving Boise now that I’ve been here for a week, but it is so hot! How about a dip into the 80s, eh?
Finally, our first date night in Boise! Basque cheese plate at Bar Gernika and shopping and chit-chat with Chelsea at Bricolage.
We made it! The brood are now enjoying both the fenced back yard and the central air while they wait for their stuff!
